Day 4420: Onu Bonu, I look up to you!
Onu Bonu is my nickname for Oneek, my son. And without shame, I admit this - I have lived a significant part of my life through him; unapologetically.
14 years ago, in one instant, this tiny human promoted me to “Daddy.” No training, no probation - handing me responsibility and meaning at the same time.
During this time, I’ve learned that parents are only a small part of a child’s equation. The rest is shaped by the world - especially peers. In that, Oneek has been lucky, and clever enough to choose friends who lift each other up.
He knows what he wants, what he deserves, and where he still needs to work harder. And when something comes his way that he hasn’t fully earned, he accepts it with humility, not entitlement.
He even likes being told off when he messes up - because he understands correction is care and discipline is love. (This theory I like)
He has now become a role model in our family full of self proclaimed high achievers—and yes, he drives us all. Slightly annoying. Mostly impressive.
Today, I look up to him. For his commitment, clarity, and quiet strength. I’m proud of what he achieves, but more inspired by how he achieves - the way he works hard, stays patient, reclaims his place when he stumbles, rises, and carries himself with humility and dignity.
If I have one wish, it’s a small, selfish one - that he grows a little more in emotional intelligence. That he loves daddy a little louder. Helps daddy with the chores mummy doesn’t want to do. And just… cares about daddy a bit more.
And while I continue trying to be your father—with experience-based-half-baked advices, suggestions and the occasional telling off - know this, my son: I am proud to say that I look up to you, for who you are. For how you carry yourself. And for how you inspire everyone in our family—especially me.

Day 4414: Red Suitcase Story - Nepal Edition
I’ve travelled once again with my ever-loyal travel buddy; red suitcase - TRIP 2.0 to Nepal this year.
We travelled light but while returning back, today, both my suitcase and my heart feel heavy.
This journey was about recognition and reconciliation - with others, with the past, and with myself. It carried the weight of unfinished conversations, quiet revelations, and hard-earned clarity. While there were moments of pride and accomplishment, some creased parts of my life were also gently ironed out.
My red suitcase witnessed some things that it hadn’t seen in all the years we’ve travelled together—physically and emotionally. Stories of over 25 years. There were places we went that I never thought I’d return to. People I didn’t expect to face. Feelings I thought I had left behind.
And as always, the road led to soul-searching and deeper truths. With every step, I peeled back the layers of who I was, and who I’m becoming. Because in the end, I am the sum of where I’ve travelled to, who I’ve travelled with and what I’ve carried along the way - in life and in place.
The red suitcase holds more than stuff. It carries new stories. Stories of letting go. Of holding on. Of learning. Of healing.
For now, I’ll sit on the plane with the reflections. Quietly. Gratefully. Knowing that some journeys don’t end when the plane lands—they begin.
