Day 1917: Christmas Turkey

Turkeys, its only about 500 years ago, this giant cousin of humble Chicken were introduced to Britain by Mr Strickland in 1526. Prior to the American bird’s arrival, Christmas staples included feasts of chicken and beef more popularly and geese, wild boar and even the odd peacock with luxury. But, nowadays 87% of British people believe that the Christmas wouldn't be the same without a traditional roast turkey.

But why?

Because the farmers needed the chicken for eggs and cows for milk, which back then were much more expensive than they are today. So, instead of killing off one of their livestock for Christmas they would have turkey and save their livestock to produce more milk and eggs!

We had our brilliantly done turkey with other assortments yesterday, twice, as once is never enough and had a very merry Christmas. I hope everybody managed to do one thing or other to have a Merry Christmas.

Well that is the last time we will be having turkey in our household, this year!
