Why is it called 'the land of 10,000 lakes', when Minnesota actually has 11,842 lakes of 10 acres or more? The 1968 state survey found 15,291 lake basins, of which 3,257 were dry. If all basins over 2.5 acres were counted, Minnesota would have 21,871 lakes. (Wiki)

I can't help but wonder who and how did they count all these lakes back in 1968? If they had counted all the lakes one by one, they would have needed to count 60 lakes in a day for one whole year, without taking days off, to complete counting 21,871. That means driving from one lake to another lake in 24 minutes for 24 hours-a-day, non-stop; that is if they didn't miss any lakes on the way or didn't even stop to eat, go to toilets and to refill the fuel. That is a hell lot of a work and this is a useless piece of information.

Well, the lake looked great during the time I was here.

These oil pumps called pumpjacks are all over the place, pumping oils 24/7.
